Athina Markopoulou

Athina Markopoulou Assistant Professor EECS Dept., University of California, Irvine

Bio. I received my Diploma degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1996. I received my Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, in 1998 and 2002 respectively. Since then, I have been a postdoctoral research fellow with the Information Systems Laboratory at Stanford, a member of the technical staff with the IP Group at Sprintlabs, and I also spent half year at Arastra Inc.(a start-up in the bay area). I joined the EECS faculty at UCI in Jan. 2006. During my Ph.D., I had internships at Aloha Networks, Nokia Research Center, and Cisco Systems. I received the NSF CAREER award in 2008.

At UCI, I am affiliated with the EECS Dept. in the H.Samueli School of Engineering, the Networked Systems Program, Calit2, CPCC, and SCONE.

Research. Design, analysis, and optimization of network protocols and algorithms. Currently working in the following areas:

Applications of network coding to networking problems including: network inference and video streaming .
Malicious traffic: filtering of unwanted traffic, BotTorent, traceback mechanisms.
Media streaming: video over wireless, video over p2p systems, multiple-view video, quality assessment.
Multiple paths and redundancy to improve Internet performance and reliability.
