Chess Tournament Results

• From all submissions for the chess assignment, seven programs actually contained "smart" code (which mostly worked). These seven programs have been entered in the chess tournament!
• Many more submissions had working code for a legal chess player. However, all these were still "dumb" players making random or always the same moves. Since running these programs in the competition would only extend the time of the tournament, only the seven "smart" candidates were selected.
• For comparison, also the "random_player" (RD) has been entered in the tournament.
• The rules for the chess tournament:
  • Every player plays against each other player twice (once White, once Black).
  • Maximal 50 moves are allowed for each player.
  • If no Check Mate is reached, the player with the most pieces left wins.
  • If both players have the same number of pieces left, the game is a tie.
  • If a player makes an illegal move, he is disqualified and the opponent wins.
  • If a player crashes, the opponent wins.
